Márk Csernovszky's Hypersomnia is an orchestral suite with puppets without text. The work is a collaboration between composer Márk Csernovszky, puppet director Orsolya Fodor and visual designer Nóra Vermes, and its performers and creators include students from the Academy of Music, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Free SZFE, the Bartók and Szent István Konzi, the Pécs College of Music and Performing Arts, and musicians from the alternative music scene in Budapest. The experimental work has had several performances. It has been performed in venues such as the Három Holló, the Benczúr House, the French Institute and the Old Synagogue in Szeged.
Hypersomnia means sleepiness, and the structure of the piece follows the different stages of sleep.
Inspiration for the piece comes from literary works such as Dezső Kosztolányi's Kornél Esti, Stanislaw Lem's Cyberiad, Alberto Moravia's Disobedience, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, Johann Wolfgang Goethe's Reineke the Fox, Thomas Mann's Death in Venice and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince.
