"Help the person in need, you who need help"
Based on Bertolt Brecht's drama The Caucasian Chalk Circle, this classroom play explores the identity-forming power of helping and the responsibility of choice.
Gruse is a simple kitchen maid. She is given a child, the child of the governess, whom the rebels are looking for. She puts it down. Then she picks it up and runs - for a child that is not hers. Gruse goes through the emotional and physical journey of adoption. Her path is the path the path risks and responsibilities taken for the sake of good. It is a coming of age. The millennial story of the chalk circle presented with epic dialectic and ragged Georgian folk music, set to four actors and classrooms.
